recalling batteries from laptops, as there has been reports of the batteries suddenly bursting into flames. We have got a Compaq Amarda 1700 lap top (reconditioned) should we be worried. No smart a*** replies please, only genuine helpful ones.

You may find Dell batteries in other laptops though... Some Sony laptops have dell batteries in and these are due to be recalled. If you are really worried, give Compaq a ring...

Probably not, if Compaq didn't issue a recall, you have nothing to worry about. The batteries for the Dell laptops that they are recalling were made from 2004-2006

Sony make batteries for dell laptops
the faulty batteries are in models manufactures between 2004 and 2006.

i have a dell too. the best thing to do is check the website, they have a list of all the batteries that are being recalled so you can check it against yours (by place of origin and serial number). it was a step by step process of elimination and probably the quickest way to put your mind at rest as to whether you need a new battery or not.

check the battery, the problem was with a certain sony battery.

If you're wondering then you should call your manufacturer, I remember hearing on the news that similar batteries were in other laptop makers as well.
