Cold water to start..Wont do much in the long run, but give you some immediate relief. Aloe is the best thing in the world if you have it or can get it....If not the next best thing is baking soda paste. It works really well, as well as toothe paste. You really shouldnt put butter on it, but if nothing else is available it will give you some relief till you can get to a store and get one of the other things i mentioned above

Depends on the degree and condition of the (skin) burn and how the burn happened. The following suggestions are for a standard Sun burn, I think it would qualify as a first degree burn: Aloe Vera gel is suppose to have healing properties. Applying vinegar and water to the burn is suppose to take the sting out. Then apply the gel?
Good Luck

It depends on the severity of the burn. A first degree burn which is just reddening of the skin, butter is a good salve, or an ice cube wrapped in a paper towel to cool the burn. Second degree burns, need more attention because they blister. Any burn ointment should be good and gauze to cover it. Third degree burns require professional medical attention because to the open blister can become infected and fester. Clean it out if you can, and always cover it to protect it from infection. In the Army burns are common because of the ammunition, so we would always have a first aid packet on hand.

It depends which country you are because different treatment is applied due to different climate. For example, if you are staying in a cold country like UK, do apply ice that wrap with towel. But if you are residing in tropical areas, do not ever use ice or cold stuff to numb the affected area. Do not even put affected area under running water. You will cause sore after that and big bubble will occur with liquid inside which is very painful. You have to use soothing gel like aloe vera or burno medicated cream. Because in hot countries, the affected cells would shrink after extreme cold and that is how it caused urgly wrinkle and scar. Trust me, my brother in law and sister are medical doctors.

Usually aloe vera gel can be soothing for a sun burn. Other burns, you will need to be careful what you put on them. Vitamin E cream or oil is good for those.

I keep a bottle of aloe vera gel in the fridge. You can buy it by the suntan lotion. If I burn myselfwhile cooking I rinse in cold water and apply the aloe vera gel ASAP. It prevents blistering most times.

1rst degree burns: Apply cool, wet cloths or immerse in water, blot gently, apply a dry sterile pad. I also keep Oleo Vera jell close by. This jell is a miracle plant that heals anything. It's great for minor burns or scalds, sun burn, scraps and cuts.
