Yes, in those first 6 months when you are feeding you baby only breaskmilk you do lose weight. I lost over 20 pounds that way! This happens for a couple of reasons. You breastmilk contains a lot of calories that are going to you baby and not to your thighs. Also, you tend to eat healthier because you are still eating for two. Many breastfeeding mothers also find that they don't have time to eat much at all which also causes weight loss (though unhealthy).
But, alas, eventually we taper off the feedings and we wean the baby and we still do not have time to eat right and exercize or we go back to our bad eating habits and the weight comes back. At least, that's what happened to me when I started feeding my son solids.

I have been breastfeeding for three months, and I have lost 35 pounds so far (I gained 46 when I was pregnant!).
However, I have read that you won't lose the last 5-7 pounds until you actually stop breastfeeding; this is because you body wants to keep some extra "resources" that may be needed for milk production. I have read it in "The Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy" by Vicki Iovine.

Yes!
You burn so many more calories when you breastfeed -- but you have to be sure to intake a healthy number of foods and eat a little more to make up all those good little nutrients that breastmilk is made out of.
It's been shown in several studies that women who breastfeed lose their pregnancy weight faster than a woman who has not.
Of course, it helps if you eat healthy through your whole pregnancy too :)

Yes. Breastfeeding burns about 500 calories per day. Multiply that by 7 days and you have 3500. To lose one pound of fat, you need to burn 3500 calories. In other words, if you are eating well and not overeating around 2000-2200 calories per day, and you breastfeed or pump exclusively and don't supplement with formula, you will drop around a pound per week.
Be careful though, eat well and rest well, or else you could threaten your milk supply.
Best regards.

Well you need burn more claores breastfeeding but to ensure you have enough decent milk you need to eat more calories (and good calories like fruit and veg).
When you first strat feeding it makes your womb contract like when you were in early labour which helps your stomach flatten quicker.
As for actually losing weight it shouldn't as you need to replace and calories your losing.

Oh, yeah! It helps your uterus contract and get you back to your original size faster than not breastfeeding. But remember not to over eat also. Eat enough for you and your baby because you need to produce enough milk. However not junk foods that wont help.

No way, it just makes the baby much stronger for the whole life to come. Neither anybody loses weight or gets de-energized. It is a natural phenomenon which should be complied with full earnest.

Oh yes! My daughter is one and I only have about 5 pounds left to lose. I figure that if I ate as much as I do now and didn't breastfeed that I would weigh over 200 pounds.

I have heard of that before. But I know it doesn't work for every woman. But my question is do you still lose weight if you are pumping?
