Yes, there are companies that pay you to take surveys, and these are market research companies. The rule, as always, is to stay away from those that ask you to pay before you can get these surveys.

Legitimate market survey companies such as Pinecone Research recruit members based on demographic characteristics -- e.g. mothers of babies 0-12 years old -- and will send surveys of products and services targeting this demographic group. Pinecone Research, however, pays only $5 per survey -- you're definitely not going to be rich with that. They can give you anywhere from 1-5 at most surveys in a month.

Other companies simply ask you to answer as many research as possible, and you don't earn anything just the chance to win at a raffle (which I find lame).

Yes!! To make it worthwhile you have to register with a lot. I am with about 50 and get maybe 2 invites a day to some. Most of them offer points rather than cash which you exchange for gifts or vouchers and some also give you so many entries into a prize draw at the end of the month. I just do mine during work at the office so any extra cash is not made in my time if you know what i mean.

Yes there are some. Me and my sister do a couple. I have only recently joined but I get 40 pence questionnaire which isn't much but considering it takes all of 10 seconds to do is not too bad and it does build up, it is called pure-profile. There is also another one that doesn't pay you but enters you into prize draws and my sister has won £5.00 quite often, I haven't yet but then again I've only been doing it for a couple of weeks. I can't remember what it is called but if you are really interested then put an edit onto your question and I'll keep checking and then go and get the name for you and put it on as an edit into this answer. Hope this helps.

So..
I can confirm that you can actually earn and extra income by taking surveys online or by reviewing new products. Many big companies need to know consumer's opinions about a product before big launches or big marketing campaigns. That's why they are willing to pay you either directly or via intermediates. You have to choose real programs though promoted by real companies or trusted networks. On this site you can find some good ones: http://www.goobypls.com/r/rd.asp?gid=555
Have a nice day

Yes, I belong to PineconeResearch.com They really do pay me $5 for every survey I complete. They send quite a few too. You have to be invited by a member to join though. Let me know and I will send you an invite when they start accepting members again.

As well as the above answers, I recommend setting up a separate email account to deal with them, especially if you sign up for a few.
I just found it easier to deal with them that way rather than having them clog up my personal account.
By the Way, I don't regard them as a free lunch. The reputable company's are getting paid by their clients to carry out these surveys over the net. Some of them can take up to 20 Min's to complete. A lot of them you wont be eligible for because you don't meet the target group.
But as a way of killing a bit of time and earning a bit of pin money its OK. You definitely wont get rich though.

yeah, I use Ciao which I have actually had money off. Thing that's the problem is either getting in there quick enough to be in the target group, or actually fitting the category of people they want at all. Some can be boring, but its easy way to make a bit of dosh. Just remember to collect it - it takes quite a while to come through.

You can take as many as you want, and they tell you how much each one pays before you start. This way, you can choose to only take higher paying ones, rather than surveys that pay just $3-$5.

Good luck!
