That's easy, it's a French derivation for 'pluck' you, it happened when the English knights were fighting against the french men-at-arms. One side cut-off the plucking finger of the archers. When the side met again, they threw slurs at each other, among them the famous "pluck you". That is why, you always hear people say, "excuse my french" when they use the 'f' word.
Other slurs between opposing armies were exposing the buttocks and genitalia before the battle, slinging the severed heads of their dead comrades at each other, and other such barbaric rituals meant to belittle and scare the opposing side....afterall, war is hell.

In ancient England people had to have permission from the King to have sex and when they wanted to have a baby the F word was put on their door. In the U.S in colonial times the F word was used as another word for prostitution. (Fornication Under the Consent of the King.)

This word isnt derived from acronyms like the ones cited in previous answers. The earliest use of it according American Heritage predates the 1500's. It came from an old poem called Flen Flyys. The line reads, "Non sunt in celi quia fuccant uuiuys of heli." Translation: They [the monks] are not in heaven because they f* the wives of ely. [a town near Cambridge].

During World War1 there was a certain type of plane used for bombings (particularly in civilian areas) known as Foucker planes
People would call out "Foucker" if they saw them, over time the word shortened and the o was dropped

I've heard it's an acronym for Fornication Under Consent of the King, but I'm not certain of the accuracy of such a claim.

A friend once told me that it did stand for Fronication Under The Consent of the King and that it meant he (the king) would screw your soon to be wife before you had the chance. I dunno if this is true but honestly it sounds like something those dirty English bastards would do. >=D. I come to believe they've done alot of sick S*it in the past.
