Surely you can understand her point of view. Let her wear them, and make sure she has answers to all her questions. If you're concerned about health reasons, tell her not to wear them to bed for a while until she sees how her body reacts to "increased usage".

Some years back there was a BIG up roar about tampons causing something called: TOXIC SHOCK SYNDROME
I am unable to recall the details, but would it be possible for your mom to talk to your Gynacologist about her concerns. I was using tampons from the very first around the same age you were, because I was very active in sports & with horses & ranch work. When I got older though they started causing me problems. Severe cramping, heavy blood clots, that type of thing. Obviously that does NOT mean it will happen to you, many women can & have used tampons their entire menstrual lives. I think your mom should be able to explain to you WHY she doesn't want you using tampons all the time. I mean you are almost 15, your period lasts maybe 7 days??? There must be something bothering her about it, CALMLY ask her why she is so opposed to your using tampons.

I'm almost 15, started using tampons at the age of 14. I had to, I was in swimming, running (sprtins), soccer, high jumping, hurdles, and cross country. Yes, tampons are more comfortable and better. Although my mom doesn't really agree to it, and I seriously don't know why. If they make them really small, it would be intended for kids right? At 14 is a good age. 2 more years and you could go for a drivers license.

I think if that's what makes her more comfortable, then there's no harm in it (or age limit).

My daughter is 16 and she refuses to use tampons. I've actually encouraged her to try them because they are MUCH more comfortable than pads, and they don't have the odor associated with pads either. She simply doesn't want to.

I don't think she's too young. As hard as it is as parents (and I'm still struggling, trust me), we need to realize that when girls are @ 15, they start wanting their space from the parentals and they really are growing up and learning what they like and don't like. Preference for tampons instead of pads is just one of those "grown up" things they want to make a decision about.

Take Care.

All the time? I'm hoping she just wants to wear them when she's on her period. No, I don't think that 14 1/2 is too young to wear tampons. They're just another way of keeping the blood from seeping out, and if changed regularly do a better job of protecting underwear & clothes than pads do. I wouldn't think of it in any other way.

I think it's perfectly acceptable for a girl that age to use tampons if she feels more comfortable in them. Especially for a sports-minded girl. They are simply more practical. But, as mentioned before, make sure that she knows the dangers of leaving them in too long (ie. toxic shock). I would allow her to use them, but suggest that she use pads at night.

As long as she knows how to use them properly, what on earth could be wrong with that? My mother wouldn't alow me to use them, and when I finaly decided to try it on my own, it was a great discovery for something that is such a miserable gross time, because it actually eliminated mess, embarassment, leak issues, having to change every 15 minutes (depending on how your body is of course). I don't think its the age that matters. I think its just important to be able to be as comfortable as possible during that time, and if that is what she is comfortable with, I would allow it. It really is different for everyone.

Well, I understand your concern. I'm not a mom, but I remember my first experience with tampons - actually quite traumatic, and I was 18!!!

If she feels more comfortable - and it may have a lot to do with her friends as well, I would let her use them. I mean, once you go tampon, do you really want to go back to a pad unless you HAVE to?

Best wishes for a quick/easy decision! Mommies rule!

If she's more comfortable with them let her use them. Some people just prefer a tampon because of the comfort and the confidence of the rarity of a leak or other issue with a pad.

not at all. when i started my period i was 12. i lived with my dad and 3 brothers i didnt know what was happening. i started using pads and you are so self consious of smell and bulkyness and stains....you just feel so much cleaner with a tampon..i used it for the first time when i was 16.i didnt know why i never used it before! if you use a tampon its so much less to think about! they werent meant for anything else but cleanliness i doubt shes using it for any kind of use other than that.

At her age, image is so critical. If she feels less self-concious wearing tampons, please continue to allow it. There is an appropriate size for every age and/or occasion. Young women worry enough about their body already. If you can be a trusted support in making her feel more assured right now, she will trust you with far more important issues later! Hang in there Mom!
