"You don't appreciate how good milk tastes, until you've drunk some which has soured."

Look at it this way. If you had little to no interest in seeing the original, why would you see a modern remake of a movie you aren't interested in? 99 times out of 100, the original is better anyway, simply because it was fresh when it came out. Some movies can be remade, but mostly horror movies cannot.

I saw the original "The Fog" when it first came out and I loved it. I have interest in seeing the remake, especially since everyone says it sucked. The first "King Kong" remake sucked HUGELY (altho I went and saw it when it came out), but the second remake does have some new things to tell about Kong and his island.
Some movies just cannot be remade, to do so would be to invite public scorn as much as when they remade "Psycho"., going so far as to carbon-copy it, scene for scene. People stayed away in droves. That attempt will never be made again. Another movie they can never remake is "The Hitcher", with Rutger Hauer and C Thomas Howell and a real cute Jennifer Jason Leigh. It was great because it reflected the paranoia of the times. Some movies can capture this again, some cant it depends on what were interested in at the time.

By watching the crap, you appreciate the good movies you see more. I have some suggestions which, if you can find them, will make you feel better about movies in general.

1. "Of Unknown Origin" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086036/
2. "Dead Alive" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103873/
3. "The Undead" - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0369399/- Not much info on this one so I'll help fill in. A meteor crashes in Finland, and it apparently turns corpses into zombies. The sky clouds over unnaturally, and unseen aliens, hidden in the unnatural clouds, are kidnapping everyone and everything alive in the infected town, transporting them up via beams of light. Our band of heros manages to elude the aliens AND the zombies until a very surprising ending. I recommend it highly.
For bad movies which I still get a kick out of, try "Garden of the Dead", it's weird, and if it ain't your cup of tea, it's only about 62 minutes long.

Crappy movies is the only thing available to watch on the big screen. Nowadays Hollywood comes out with these horrible remakes of movies because nobody has original ideas anymore. Any great movie are indie films and unfortunately those have a limited release. If you want to see a great horror movie perhaps you can try Japanese Horror; it's very interesting. I highly recommend Audition, Suicide Club, and A Tale of 2 sisters.

I liked that movie. I would never buy it because it is one of those movies you can only see once.
But if you didn't like it a reason that you saw it could be that you thought it looked like a good movie until you saw it and found out it was stupid.

Because you have a poor test in selecting a movie. Read reviews of each title and watch only that interest you.
No matter how stupid a movie is created, but still its a work of lots of talents and hard work of someone.

Because hollywood offers so many dumb movies. Do what I do, go to http://www.tribute.ca, google movies or yahoo! movies and read the ratings of a movie you want to see, and other viewers comments. It will help you determine if you still want to see it or not and what to expect of it. Good luck.
