Why would you, the switch is right there. GEE, maybe you don't pay the electric bill. For you energy is totally free and the war in Iraq is meaningless.

Yes I leave my monitor on 24/7 because when my computer shuts down, it turns my monitor off but technically it's still ON. But I have a CRT monitor so it's okay for me. With an LCD that might be risky.

My entire pc stays on 24/7,my brother who is now a computer programmer, and also a electronic engineer, told me that any digital device or electronic device such as pc"s do not like to be turned off, they will wear out faster by turning them off and on everytime you want to use them, mine and his both pc"s have been on over a year we set the screen savers once we are done working on the pc to come on in about 4 minutes.but you want to completly shut it down inthe event of a thunder storm,I know you cannot always be there when a storm pops up but what I tell you is true.

70% of the power consumed by a computer comes from the Monitor. Although it won't hurt themonitor to be on all that time, shutitng it off when not in use, will save energy.

You can but if you leave the same image on the screen, it will burn into the screen. Although not as prevalent with new monitors, it can still be seen often on systems that spend most of their time with a login screen displayed.

I wouldn't, that can cause burn-in. Either set it to have a screensaver, or turn off the monitor after so long.

dear member,

I do for monitoring purposes and as long as you leave a screensaver on or have the monitor on standby after 10min or less you're fine and it will avoid burn-ins.

kind regards,
ben
