I'm not sure where you got your information from, but the notebooks did not explode though they did cause minor fires. According to one of the sites that came up when I searched for Dell Recall, only three computers had the problem and the fires didn't extend beyond the desk or table on which the computer was sitting. To prevent any more fires, Dell is replacing the batteries on some notebooks.

When I first heard of the problem, I was told that MILLIONS of computers had been recalled. Turned out that it's only 22,000 computer batteries that have been re-called. The link to the article is below.

Dell has the cost price advantage and to maintain that it sources most parts form countries china , and eastern europe , it is highly likely that dell to do cost control tried to cut some corners , and now is paying its price , on the other hand vaio is a very upscale product and cannot afford to play on its quality. anyways what goes comes back , dell has grown too fast and its now facing hiccups, because the concept of internet delivery platform means although time is a big upside but you might get reduced to a company which just puts parts together but has no control on it

It seems it was a quality control issue for that batch of batteries that went to Dell.

variety call on a working laptop or computer does not remember...all computer's use the two an Intel or AMD CPU, Intel, ATi, or nVidia GPU, many times a Broadcom WiFi chip, and many conventional aspects. the only difference is unquestionably purely the call on the case. the only subject to rigidity approximately in computer purchases is the money, discover the only that is best to you cash, except one specific variety has something you like, jointly with one extra super or extreme decision reveal or has a extra advantageous snap shots card than different manufacturers, yet determining to purchase with the aid of variety on my own is pointless.
