as a movie fan this is a tough question i have watched east of eden giant and rebel without a cause and they were great and timeless movies.
on the other hand river phoenix wasc equal in his movies especially in stand by me where he gave it is all
Over all i would have to say that i would choose james dean

Porbably James Dean - sooooo good looking and all 3 of his films were great.
Actually, River Phoenix was pretty fit too. And his films were cool.
It's tough, but I've been a James Dean fan for years so I would have to go with him.

You are stirring up memories of my beloved River Phoenix. Halloween means only one thing to me and that is dear River's death. A talented lad, the same age as me, who did daft things and we missed out on his progress. He and James Dean are not a competition as Dean's work was of equal interest and critique to others. I am sure James Dean is equally missed by others.

Both where good actors though Jimmy Dean never got to really show his full potential like River Phoenix did in My own Private Idaho with Keanu Reeves. It was sad the way they both died so young and they probably would have left great great legacy's if they had of had the chance.
I love jimmy dean as he was really the first bad boy of movies before Marlon Brando took over. As for River i believe he would have stepped all over Brad Pitt where his talent and looks where concerned...God rest them both
