yes, unfortunately, some things never change from high school.

Sadly, or in another perspective happily, YES, adults still have cliques.
It is the human factor. Birds of the same feathr flock together? You can't help but be cozy with the people who hav the same interests as you. If you love badminton, they you have a badminton clique, Theater?, then, the theater group. Even in professional and civic organizations, they are split. In the very elite Rotary International, there are cliques amongst their very own leaders. In the academe, there are cliques amongst professors. In the church, there are cliques amongst the clergy.

Yes. And I think that is so pathetic! I understand having genuine friends of similar interests that enjoy hanging out everywhere together but what I don't understand is why the people in the cliques hang together. They don't care about each other and deep down they envy and hate each others guts! I have seen these cliques everywhere: at work, parties, school, and even at church- unbelievably sad!

Adults are more likely to have cliques than kids are. Its the adults who socialize children to hang only with certain classes of people.

I do not know what you are referring to,but people do form cliques at all stages of life.
I am glad thad that I myself do not tend to join cliques.
I like the Idea of being a freethinker.
The only time I have ever been cliquish is when I was in the United States military, Now, that was cool.

Absolutely. At my office, there are about 50 people and we are sub divided. There is a 'cool' group that everyone flocks around and looks to for activities outside of work (happy hour, parties etc). Then there are the outcasts, the kiss-ups, the angry people. Cliques never end!

It is human nature to seek out people and be part of a group.
And the reasons are different, some join or form to lead and exploit,
some join for protection or need of belonging.
Once a person/child leaves the family for school or work it is only natural to form another family/clique.

yes, we most certainly do. but one thing i've noticed is that many of the cliques have shifted in adulthood. for instance, i was always called things like "nerd" or "wanna-be" in jr high. now as an adult many of the "cool" kids are working minimum wage jobs and wish they'd been a little more nerdy so they could have a better life. they never end. just choose carefully.

Some do yes - but that is such a broad term because a close group of friends could be considered a clique.

Yes. Go to any university in the USA and you can find cliques. The only difference is that they behave more civilized towards one another than they wouuld normally act in high school.

Oh absolutely. But when you're an adult, you choose the clique you want to be involved in and not the other way around. You realize when you're older that you'll decide who you want to be friends with and not the other way around. You'll be the one rejecting who you want to be associated with. You sound like a sweetie. I wish you well in the future. Hold tight to your dreams.
