Case in point: (I'm black)

I work in a college where there are a diversity of races. When ever I have to go to another office to get something taken care of and it just so happens that I get a black person who has to deal with me and what ever needs to be taken care of I get this "attitude" from him/her like I am wasting their time or something, but you let a white person or some other race come and ask them the same thing and the attitude changes to "nice!" and accomodating. Same thing happens if I go to a grocery store, a mall or anything place that services you.
Why is that? I respect everybody and don't put an "attitude" on anyone like that.
What I'm asking for is the same respect that a black person will give a white person. I'm black too and don't understand this biasness.

At first I was going to dismiss your question as stupid, but I began to think about it and I see your point.

I think what it is you're experiencing is kinda complicated to explain. The black people you're running into that do this may feel they have to "take you down a peg" because they may feel that because you have an important position, you may feel you're better than them. Say you're an exec and you have to go to someone else's office and request something from the other person's secretary. That secretary may get the feeling that you're ordering her around and you're black like her and therefore you are no better than her and you and her are on the same level in society regardless of your postition and blah blah blah... it's all BS of course. it kinda goes back to the "house n*gger/field n*gger" mentality of slavery days, when the blacks who worked in the house of the slaveowner were looked upon as privlidged (and some may have even felt privilidged). Some field workers may have felt resentful because while they were working in the hot sun and dirt all day, the slaves who worked in the house got to wear clean clothes and work inside in comfort. Nevermind that they ALL were slaves nonetheless...

Now as to why they treat white people, regardless of position in the company, better, that, too, may have a bunch of reasons. If it's an office setting, they may assume that everyone white is some sort of "boss" and therefore they have to suck up to them if they are ever going to have a chance to move up in the company. Only when they are absolutely sure that the white person is not an exec (i.e. some loading dock guy who comes in wearing overalls or some guy who comes into fix the printer or some Polish cleaning lady) will they treat them as a lessor.

there's this general idea that whites are "up here" when it comes to the work force in the country and blacks and other minorities are "down here" (I think they call it the "Mr. Charlie" attitude), and that to get "up there" you have to show respect and bow and scrape and MAYBE they will let you into the exclusive circle. You know, kiss a little azz

I've seen the opposite happen too, where a black worker in an office may be too friendly with someone who is his boss, assuming that because they're both black, he can call him by his first name or call him "brother" all the time, while the white boss is always "Mr. Smith". I see most of the black execs go along with it because they want to show they haven't "forgotten where they come from" even though they would love to have the "Mr." treatment too...

Anyway that's my theory....

Because since you are black too, they feel like they can be real with you. If they were rude or had an attitude with someone who was anything BUT black, they might be considered racist. So they are careful to be polite to other races because they don't want to be labeled racist. To another black person, they are just plain rude, and face it, you are way more likely to be fired for being racist than rude.

I don't think the question is why they are disrespectful to blacks, but why they are disrespectful to anybody? I have to say, i have had encounters with black people, almost always female, with attitudes and they always take their sweet time to do something.
BUT, I'm a waitress and I work with this black girl who is totally NOT like that. She's a great waitress and she's not disrespectful to anyone. ......so I don't know what's up with some people. .....and it is not just black people either.

People that are giving you bad attitude are jealous, or are afraid.....perhaps you seem more "well to do" or "act white" and they are threatened by this becuase you arent "black" enough.

I have had friends that are black and have experienced similar things....

or maybe they are just assholes and dont like you for some other reason that has nothing to do with race.....

How can you possibly ask a question like this if you are black? Like you don't know any other black people in REAL LIFE that you could ask that. Some people (notice how I stated people and not BLACK PEOPLE) are rude just because they are. It has nothing to do with race. Did you ever stop to see what part you have in all this? I mean you are black.............................................. ask yourself the question.
