Yes he was. His range, strength and diversity set him apart from the rest by a long shot. Sam Cooke is the only other vocalist I can name who would come close to his talent.

I definitely think he had a unique voice. I was a big fan of Journey in the 80's, mainly because of Steve Perry's voice.

Yes, he had a great voice and he was the one who took Journey to the next level. It's too bad they dumped him and went with a sound-a-like with a similar name

I agree,he had a great voice,especially the ballads he sang with Journey.I've read that his mother was an opera singer.

Yes, I remember someone on American Idol singing a Journey song and thinking that he wasn't even close. And I wondered why he would do that to himself on national TV.
