DO NOT use a digital camera!!! It will distort the drawings.
If it's going to be printed I would suggest that you get a really good quality scanner or take it to a professional place to be scanner.
Is it color or black and white? From my experience, and I'm a professional graphic designer, the average scanner you buy at Staples requires much color correction when dealing with color images. Black and white is ok.
Important tips to remember:
• For printing, always scan at minimum 300 dpi. Scan at a higher resolution if it's going to be enlarged more than the original size.
• If you MUST have it small enough to send in an email, save it in jpg but use the maximum setting (12). This will allow the highest color retention. You will have to send one jpg per email. Ideally, you want to save it in tif format. Tifs retain more detail but you will have to send on a CD. Typical 8.5" x 11" 4-color tif is about 50MB.
If you need more tips, email me.

If you get a decent scanner it will give much better quality and resolution than a camera for the same price. If you intend to send the works into print you'll definitely need a scanner. Of course the camera has the advantage of doing more than just digitalize drawings - but as I said, consider it only if quality is not too important.

A scan would reproduce the best, but don't compress the jpeg too much or it will be distorted, I hate that. It gives you the compression option when you save it, try to keep it 8-9 or higher.

you can also use gprs to send the images from cell phone to your email id. You can use a scanner provided the rate of scanning is good and the quantity of pages are less
