Time in a Bottle is the song name - and it was sung by Jim Croce, but apparently Gordon Lightfoot also did a version of it.
You can get the song on the album Time in a Bottle/Greatest Love Songs : Jim Croce from Amazon for $10.99

The song, 'Time in a Bottle,' is a Jim Croce song from the album 'You Don't Mess Around With Jim.' Gordon Lightfoot sang 'If You Could Read My Mind'; 'Sundown'; and 'The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.'

Actually, that's not Gordon Lightfoot, it's Jim Croce, and the song is "Time in a Bottle." I don't think any of his original albums are available on CD - he died before CDs were invented. But he has some collections on CD.

Its not Gordon Lightfoot, its Jim Croce, now deceased. He sang it in the 70's and I believe he wrote it also. He was killed in a plane crash along with some Lynyrd Skynyrd members. The song title is Time In A Bottle.

but, I don't think Gordon Lightfoot recorded it - I think it was Jim Croce.
It's probably on his greatest hits album.
