Geography is the area of knowledge that refers to locations and the world. It includes the study of countries and politics (political geography), natural landforms like rivers, mountains, islands (physical geography), cities, industry and agriculture (economic geography), the flow of people and ideas (cultural geography), looking at these trends over time periods (historical geography) and using maps and other tools to help analyze and interpret data (Geographic Information Systems).

Knowing geography helps you know more about the world that we live in - who lives in other places and what they do, what they believe, how they get along, how they interact with their natural landforms and resources, etc. It's more than just knowing states and capitals or how to read a road map.
