Failure to resist Karl Rove's setting the agenda for public discourse.
Failure to demand accurate voting equipment, equitable voting accommodations and reliable recounts.
Failure to ridicule the falsehoods in Republicans "talking points"
Failure to hold Bush and Cheney personally accountable for lies and misstatements.
Inability to come up with sound bites that work: "Two billion dollars per week down the drain in Iraq" might be a good mantra.
Unwillingness to keep issues alive such as the pro-pharmaceutical industry Medicare drug program that was only passed by Republican dirty tricks on the floor of the Congress was a horribly undemocratic maneuver that should not have been permitted. Democrats might have shut down the Congress at that point and should not have simply moved on but this unethical maneuver is nearly forgotten.
Unwillingness to adopt clear and unified voice in things which we can agree like objecting to midnight Conference Committeee's insertion of provisions to bills and earmarks.
Permitting the pretense of the "big tent Republican party" to stand without letting the hot air out of that sham.
In Judiciary Committe Hearings Democrats too often make speeches and ask too few questions. Even if they don't get answers, they should ask and let the squirming stand.
Too many Democrats have voted to confirm Presidential appointees who have been totally unqualified to serve.

Please note that Republicans have been guilty of some of these well, but you asked for DEMOCRATS' mistakes.
So, in no particular order ...
1. A racist agenda that uses Affirmative Action to further drive a wedge into American race relations
2. A state-first mentality that implies government should be the ultimate caretaker of every aspect of society
3. Universal health care (see No. 2), which would be costly and reduce the quality of care for everyone
4. Continually presenting fringe groups and issues as though they're mainstream (gay marriage, church/state separators)
5. Infringement upon Constitutional rights that don't suit their agenda, such as the Second Amendment (guns) and Fifth Amendment (gov't seizure; see No. 2)
6. Fostering disrespect for the office of the presidency by encouraging name-calling and belittlement of a sitting president
7. Holding up anti-Semitic, anti-American fascist lightweights like Cindy Sheehan as some sort of model of American virtue
8. Insistence that ANY restrictions on abortion are unacceptable
9. Fostering a sense of detached entitlement in nearly every facet of life (see everything from overzealous welfare to removing dodgeball from grade schools because it might offend the fat, slow kid)
10. Failing to address illegal immigration while - and I'm sure this is coincidence - labor unions find themselves repopulating their memberships with (according to the Mexican consulate on 'Hannity & Colmes' sometime back) ... "workers who do not have proper documentation."

Since President Bush took office in 2000, Republicans have had control of both the House and Senate for all but a very brief period of time. During the time that Republicans have controlled Congress, there have been a number of highly questionable actions by the Bush Administration that have demanded congressional oversight. Unfortunately, the Republican-controlled Congress has refused to carry out its constitutional oversight duties, frequently working instead to provide excuses and political cover to the Administration.
According to the Washington Post, "Government scholars and watchdog groups say the decline of congressional oversight in recent years has thrown out of kilter the system of checks and balances the Founding Fathers created to keep no one branch of government from becoming too powerful." (See Appendix A, "The Poor Republican Record on Oversight") Given this poor record of performance and its consequences for the American people, it is not surprising that the overwhelming majority of the American people do not trust Congress!!! Now who has failed Americans? I am not a Dem but I would say the facts say the Republicans HAVE !!!! So again get your FACTS RIGHT AND GROW UP YOU ARE AS BAD AS BUSH LIE AFTER LIE, INSTEAD OF TELLING THE TRUTH ! A mind is a terrible thing to waste...AND YOUR MIND IS A WASTE OF TIME, TAKING THE TIME TO LIE AS BUSH DOES !!! INSTEAD OF LOOKING HOW REPUBS HAVE FAILED AMERICA !!!!

I don't know if I could name 10, but I will say that people aren't aligning themselves with the 2 parties as much, lately. I myself am a libertarian (no matter what you think you know about me) and many other former dems or reps are the same. Many republicans are leaving their party as well. Republicans are no longer conservative, and democrats are no longer useful. VOTE LIBERTARIAN!
