Politics is supposed to be the art of compromise. Two people with different philosophies come together and try to find common ground. Now it has degenerated into an us vs them mentality, a my way or the highway attitude. Often there isn't even an attempt to find a compromise because both sides are afraid it will make them look weak to their constituents come election day.

There is politics and there is psychodrama. Real politics is a local phenomenon. School systems, police departments, fire departments and waste management need local direction to function properly. Townships and locales need to be sure that funding generated by levees, fines and taxation is directed into the common good: pot holes are repaired, school buses are replaced when they get old, the local septic system is maintained safely. This is the real world of politics.

However when most people talk about politics they are talking about something huger and more intimidating; they are talking about the power of regional and national governance, that government that oversees interstate commerce, the appointing of high level judiciary,
the creation and maintainance of national defense. Because these matters have widespread implications, effecting millions, the policies and frictions of this level of government create a Superidentity to the individuals in a system, conservatives as opposed to liberals would be an example, with all of the melodramatic strife and conflict that arises when people attach themselves to enormous group indentities.

However, at the end of the day, it is local politics that most effects people, and it is odd how little attention people pay to it. They may be ardent in their political identities, cons libs libertarians, etc... but your average town hall meeting usually lacks for any real participation.

Which makes a lie out of democracy.

Politics - from the latin POLI, meaning many, and from TICS, a small, annoying parasite.

To me, it means every few years they pick new people to think up annoying new rules for me to live by and decide how little of my own money I'm allowed to keep. They call this "freedom", which I think is a really goofy name. I don't get much choice in the matter. They have a lot of weapons, lawyers, limos, airplanes, big buildings and have to hold important meetings employing caterers, ice sculptors, fancy China, invitations with gold leaf trim, decorators. . . I just have a little house.

I guess it's a lot like organized crime. As long as I pay them protection money, they don't kill or jail me.

Well. it is sort of a game being played by players that call themselves politicians. These players could not ever get a job anyplace else in the Corporate world or even cleaning dishes at McDonalds. In addition, they HAVE to be corrrupt in order to succeed.. Voila.. that is politics

To me politics is just the treatment and source of some problems in America NOT the CURE. Just two parties who believe in running the U.S.A in different ways but it all comes down to the same corrupted reasons and that is just sad.
