I am sure people will have better answers then I am , I tend to shy away from the Horror stuff. My vote would have to go with the Shining with Jack Nicholson. I thought he was great. The idea of being stranded up in this isolated place with a mad man and ghost and other evil stuff was good. The Blair Witch project I found to be very interesting also.

Probably the original "Dawn of the Dead" (1978), an amazing blend of gross-out horror special FX and satirical humor. George Romero at the peak of his powers.
