you can, easily, but you'll still have to pay for stuff or receive payment for it. If you're a seller, nobody will buy from you unless you use a secure payment method like paypal. If you're a buyer you may find the stuff you want is sold only by paypal payment. You need at least a bank account to set paypal up, but not necessarily a credit card.
Ebay makes its money from seller fees.
Paypal makes its money from transaction charges (seller only I think).
The right way to pay for stuff depends on where you live. I'm in the UK and only use paypal; I don't trust anything else. However, US sellers seem to be very twitchy about paypal, for some reason.
The most important thing about ebay is feedback rating. If you have a good score with 100% positive feedback then people will buy from you and pay good money, no matter what age, shape, size or species you are. Do the right thing and be fastidious and careful, and you will have that.
PS Nothing in this post should be construed as an endoresment of, or incitement to, deceive lie misrepresent obfuscate or discombobulate.

Proably can lie about your age to create an account. As to how they make money, same way any auction house makes money. They take a percentage, usually around 10%, of the profit.

You need a credit/debit card to sign up with ebay, so if you have one then you can lie about your age. If you are under 18 then you cant.
Ebay charges people for selling with them, it also owns paypal and charges people again for receiving payments via paypal

You could lie about your age, but wouldn't be able to buy anything.
They make their money from the illegal slave trade in humans. They sell them to aliens. Thats why you should not sign up with them.
Or maybe they just charge you for selling your stuff through them... d'oh....

you can lie about your age but that still doesn't get you the credit card approval from Paypal to check out.
How do they make money? Try advertising you'll find out
how.

no cause you need a credit card to get on ebay, and they charge the seller so much (depending on the amount the seller is asking) Ex: $10.00=$0.25 fee
