Actually both are very useful insects. Bees tend to get better press because they collect and store honey in their hives and are easy to domesticate. Both bees and wasps are excellent pollinators...some types of fruit trees actually require wasps for pollination. Certain types of wasps are also predators that prey on agricultural pests.

Bees make honey and pollinate flower. Wasps are considered pests. So a bee is more useful. The difference in looks are noticable too, bees are fatter, a wasps have narrower heads and waist. Bees go to flowers, wasps go to you or food.
