In most cases yes, but you need to make sure that the processor speed is fast enough and that the computer has enough RAM. Look at the system requirement on the box of XP. Your computer should meet or exceed the specifications.

Yes, but I wouldn't, and here's why

Windows XP needs a faster machine and much more memory. I would not recommend it if your computer is not 1GHz in speed and have less than 256MB of RAM. But Windows XP seems pretty good with 512MB of RAM.

On a computer that was obviously bought before 2000, it seems unlikely that your comptuer will meet the minimum requirements.

When Windows XP first came out, they said that it would work with less than what I am saying. But Windows XP and all of it's Windows Updates is much slower than the original version.

If your computer does have 128MB of RAM, you might consider getting a copy of Windows 2000 Pro instead. But I really recommend that you simply reinstall the Windows 98 that came iwth your computer, and enjoy the fastest possible speed that the OLD rig can give you. At this point, your computer is old an on borrowed time, so investing any money in it at this point would be foolish. Don't spend $100 or more, when you can buy a much better replacement computer for about $500.

the previous posts are right. You can upgrade as long as you have the right RAM speeds and enough space on your hard drive. But XP is pretty expensive so you might be better off just buying a new computer that comes with XP on it. if you are not sure how to check your RAM, right click on your "MY Computer" icon and then click on properties. Make sure it is on the general tab. There it should say how many kb or mb of RAM you have. If it is in kb, just divide that number by a thousand.
My personal opinion? It all depends on what you do with your computer. I love windows 2000 much more than xp, but I work with computers for a living so I like all the things I can do with 2000 vs. XP. If you just use your PC for e-mail and are willing to spend the money for XP or a new PC, then go for it. Otherwise, 98 isn't the worst thing in the world. But you might want to look into 2000 as well.

Yes, you can upgrade from Windows 98 to Windows XP. It should be ok, but there may be some issues with hardware and software on your computer. To be absolutely safe, I would back up the most important data on your computer (Word, Excel documents, e-mail, etc.) BEFORE you try to upgrade.

Yes it can be, but please check the system requirement fro the new OS (XP) because what runs 98 is probably lower for XP.
