It depends on what type of climate you prefer. The east side of the island(Kona side)is in midst of Mauna Kea's and Mauna Loa's rain shadow. This West side is dry. This occurs because the Hawaiian trade winds blow East to West 99 percent of the year.A little bit of rain everyday, all year long on the Eastern Hilo side.Being the worlds tallest mountain(33,000 from the ocean floor),moist air runs smack into a 14,000 foot high pressure dome, causing 13 different bioms. The island has places that look just like Ireland,Africa,Baja,Brazil, the moon,Bali and so on.My favorite place to stay on the island is on the west side in the small city of Kona,at the Sheraton.Along with awesome rooms,it has a huge, fast water slide that dumps you into the big pool that over looks the Pacific. It's a bit pricey at 200 night, but it is so pretty and is built atop and ancient lava flow.So many wonderful things to do on that island, yet so little time...tom science

I like Oahu...Honolulu is the most action and fun.. Staying at the Hilton Hawaiian village or the Sheridan Wakakiki... So much fun... There is outside shopping and lots of restaurants and lots of things to do... You can go to Pearl harbor, snorkeling at Hanauma Bay and go to a luau.. I do know that October is the rainy season and I ususally go in Jan-March is best time...So goodluck and Aloha
