it's been well documented that certain animals (i.e. bears, monkeys, and dolphins to name a few) masurbate and engage in social sex whether a female is present or not. It is pure for pleasure and social reasons. Looks like humans are not so different from animals afterall.

Animals go in to heat periodically. They are not constantly sexually receptive like humans are. So they do nothing.
