I have an automatic, because that is what i could afford at the time. I rather shift the gears, and think it's fun. but it's hell driving in the city while shifting. with an automatic i just step on the gas and don't worry about shifting. but out in the suburbs and on the highway I rather shift.
I only would get a manual on a sports car or a muscle car. Honda's and little sissy cars like that i would waste the time getting a manual. they cannot produce the speed.

Manual. Automatic's...boring. The car practically drives itself. The only case where I'd pick an automatic is for a track car, but a specifically designed automatic with quicker shifts so I can concentrate on the turns. Manuals have less power loss, they get better fuel economy and don't need mainenance...

A standard transmission can be fun, but I prefer automatic. After all, how can I use my cell, drink a cup of coffee or put on my mascara with a 5 speed?

Manual shift every time. Might be a bit harder to drive but gives you better control of the vehicle - that's why racing cars and emergency vehicles are nearly always manual shift.

I have a standard if that's what you're asking. I feel in more control with a standard - especially in the winter. I have a '95 Jeep Wrangler with 175,002 miles on it and I'm keeping it until it literally falls apart.

Shift, because you have far more control despite automatic being far more simple

I like to drive a 5-speed, but I drive an automatic.
That allows me to have a hand on my dog, or on my passenger's leg.
