If I'm at work I use this soundboard http://www.ebaumsworld.com/juddnelson.html and they get to talk to Judd Nelson from the Breakfast Club... works best with speaker phones...
Also try this, be consistent and monotone and just pick up the phone and say "password" - 3 times & hang up after not getting a response..

Wasn't sure how categorize it - sounds like recreation to me :)

Once I say hello, and I realize they are telemarketers, I speak Spanish but one time that backfired because the person spoke Spanish as well, so I hung up and the person called back and I told the person, my final answer is no, then I hung up. Your idea is better, I love it!

There are a couple:

- do a fake answering machine: "leave your message after the beep"

- pretend you don't speak English and make up some strange accent

- try to sell them stuff

mci used to call alot trying to get me to switch phone companies, so me and my daughter took turns asking them if they were our master communications international superiors...and then if they asked us more questions, we said that we were using our esp that we learned from them....and that they should already know what service we were using and what our answers would be ....they called up to 10 times a day so everytime we answered the phone we got more ignorant answering every question with something completely irrelevant... finally one of them hung up on us and never called back!!!

I like to prove that I do not need what they are selling. If they want to clean my carpet, I have hardwood floors. If they want toclean my furniture, We sit on pillows. If they want to kill the weeds in my yard I tell them I like the weeds. They hang up on me

Usually I either answer and hang up on them, or I don't answer. I hate bill collectors they will be like take down my number and ill be laying in bed and be like okay and they will tell me their number so i pretend to write it down and then they are like repeat that to me, so then i hang up

Briefly......is the short answer.
But ..........I try to be polite but firm. They are only doing their jobs, after all, and probably hate it as much as we do.

What makes me mad after I've tried to be nice to them is if they slam the phone down or pull the plug or whatever it is they do. It makes be determined to be horrible to the next one who calls, but I always forget .........!!!
