People keep sending me unsolicited emails talking about how they can link me to international bodies. But they are just conmen and women.

It is called phishing.

It can be emails targeting ebay buyers and sellers where the emails are made to look like official eBay emails and ask the ebay users to put in their information again. They typically claim that the account was hijacked so they need to verify the info, or that ebay is doing routing checks. Once a person clicks on the link, the person will be brought to a website that looks like eBay and will ask them to fill out all pertinent information from SSN to bank account info to credit card info.

If scammers send out 10 million of this email, and 0.1% responds -- that's still 100,000 people

I often receive junk like this too and just ignore it. If I don't know the person I don't even open the e-mail. It's safer that way. As to how they get our personal info, I'm always filling out contest forms on line or giving personal info when I open up a new account for example on Yahoo. These are only two ways they get our info, there's probably hundreds of other tricks out there.

Ask to meet in person that will get them off your back because they don't want to be revealed, so POW! There's your answer!
