Against.
My arguments against are probably less religious or spirituality-based (although that may play a small role), but rather based on the fact that there is not access to equal justice in this country. The poor, a great percentage of minorities and the less 'connected' just do not have the same opportunity to have a vigorous defense as those who are more privileged in society.
So, many mistakes are made in the process. Now, I don't know if I'd rather see 100 guilty go free than one innocent get the death penalty --I just don't know how to make such a trade-off. But, the death penalty (once executed of course) is irreversible, and I just don't have enough confidence in our system of justice to support this ultimate punishment.

Now, I undrstand that there are cases where the evidence seems so clear-cut and the criminal act is so heinous that I would not mind seeing the perpretator lose his/her life. But, having staked out my side on this, I can't have it both ways.

I am against it.I think people should have to spend the rest of their life in prison instead of getting the death penalty..The death penalty is just horrible.

I am for the death penalty. I just wish there was a way to make absolutely sure that the person was guilty. I'm pretty sure the justice system works but I wouldn't trust my life with it.

punishment for a crime should fit the crime, eye for eye, tooth for tooth.

But those receiving the death sentence should be given Every chance to prove their innocence.

The execution should be public. the method of death so horrid that everyone would be shocked at the brutality and gut splattering effects of a state imposed death sentence. The the remains should be exhibited for all to see after which they could be burned in the public waste facility.

FOR --maybe the USA will become a safer place to live before the liberals took over and made crime ok as long as it didn't affect them-- ( the Rich )

Good question. I am all for it as long as they have substancial evidence that proves that person did the crime, and they don't find out 10 years later that he wasn't the one that did it.

I'm for it. Why should our tax money pay to keep them alive in prison for the rest of their lives. Just get it over with.
