TRUE love can't exsist unless both people are whole. Obsession usually occurs when one person NEEDS the other to feel fulfilled and that is not true love.
People confuse love with obsession with lust all the time.

Love is a picture on your desk...
Obsession is a shrine in your bedroom.
Love is taking the day off to have lunch with her...
Obsession is not going to work so you can follow her every move.
Love is thinking about her periodically during the day...
Obsession is not thinking about anything else except her all day long.
Basically obsession is the extreme version of love, it's unhealthy.

loves last longer when you get the object of your obsession that's it it's gone it just that an obsession. With love it should last for a long time. Hopefully

Love: intense affection arising out of kinship or personal ties
Obsession: to be abnormally preoccupied
Love is genuine and obsession is abnormal. When its love, generally you go about normal day to day routine things. Love is always in your heart but not so much the absolute all of your existence. When your obsessed with that love your primary thoughts and actions are focused on one thing only. It's hard to go about your daily routine. It becomes all consuming to the point of mixed emotions dealing with rational thoughts.
