it can cause low birth weight, but as long as you don't smoke it is what matters.
tell him not to smoke it around you, if he made the decision to bring this baby with you to the world, be responsible.

There is a possibility that your friend will quit when he knows how serious this is. As a father, it would be time to put away childish things, like recreational highs. The odds are you'll end up supporting yourself and your child, and possibly your boyfriend if you haven't dumped him by then. As far as the risk to your child's health, I don't think studies have been done on the effects of second hand pot smoke on an unborn fetus. There were some serious studies conducted about toxicity to the smokers however. The best synopsis I know of is called "The Marijuana Papers" printed in the seventies. From memory, there are 26 different drugs in cannabis sativa l. At least one of them is a mutatogen, meaning it can cause birth defects, and others which are carcinogens (cancer causing). It might help to keep in mind that whatever this child is born with is what it'll have to live with for a lifetime. I know a woman with 4 children, all different fathers. One of her little boys has an eye about 2 inches lower than the other, no exaggeration its in the middle of his cheek. Thats what meth did for him. Its not his fault his mom wanted to be around drugs and sex and wasn't thinking at all about him. He just has to pay for it all his life - having to explain how proud he is of his Mom, not being able to throw a baseball like everyone else, having his mate-pool pretty much limited to blind women, etc.
I don't know about weed, but is that a fair trade-off? No matter what the immediate pleasure for you or your friend is you're talking about not even giving the baby an option. That's taking away his freedom to choose, before he is even born. How satanic is that?
Anyway I would like to thank you for asking. I hope you will take our answers seriously and I'll step out on a limb here and speak for your unborn children, they hope you listen too. Do the right thing and good luck.

Your baby will be a stoner FOREVER!
I'm kidding... not funny, but kidding none the less.
okay... First of all, why would you want to have a child with a pot head to begin with?
Please don't tell me that you love him... That has nothing to do with putting yourself into the position of raising children with him.
Please, do your unborn children a favor and wear condoms until you come to your senses and decide to either keep the pot head and never have kids or find someone worthy of the gene pool.
and for the people saying weed is harmless... please stop! Weed was harmless when grown naturally and organically in the 70's. Weed is sprayed with more pesticides and treated with 10 times the harmfull chemicals than tobacco. If you're not supposed to smoke, that should include weed! Sheesh! If you get it off a street corner from some shady stranger in your neighborhood... Chances are, it wasn't lovingly grown through organic soil or hydroponics and laced with love.

he better stop now, or you should move on to another relationship before you do get pregnant by him.
Smoking marijuana during pregnancy can affect the fetus, as will second-hand smoke. The more weed the mother is exposed to, the greater the chances are of damage to the developing fetus. Even if birth defects are not obvious at birth, being around marijuana during pregnancy can have long-term behavioral and psychological affects on the fetus. When it comes to pregnancy it is best, to avoid all hazardous drugs such as cigarettes, marijuana, and alcohol. The nine months of pregnancy is a period of time when the mother needs to be extra cautious of her behavior because even one mistake by the mother or someone around her can have serious long-term affects on the fetus. After birth, both the child and the parents may have to pay a sad price for mistakes made during pregnancy

Probably nothing, But could if he has other drugs involved in his weed. If you have a boyfriend that is a weed smoker. Why do you want to have his kid? That is the dumbest thing I have ever heard! Shape up and find a new boyfriend then get married then have the children!

as long as hes not smoking around you, it should have little to no effect. Weed can lower sperm count in men, but if you are allready pregnant, then looks like it didnt. BUT ANY kind of smoke that is around you or that you smoke can be very bad for the baby. so have him smoke away from you.

Well, smoking weed they say causes low sperm count. So it would be more difficult to get pregnant. As for if you became pregnant his smoking wouldn't effect you or the pregnancy as long as he did not smoke around you.

Your child might develop an urge to smoke weed later in life, but I don't think there is really a way of knowing.

Well, my sister in law got pregnant by her husband that was a weed smoker. My neice was born and she is on the Autistic Spectrum. She has Sensory Intergration Disorder and has a hard time funcitoning in the world. She loses all composure if a blade of grass touches her skin.
Is there a connection? I don't know, but you won't catch me taking chances.

Absolutely nothing (physically/developementaly)... but is this a good prospect for the father of you child? If you smoke weed or cigarrettes your baby might have a lower birth weight than he/she would have if you had not... among other problems.

Well, since the smoke is causing less oxygen to get to your brain, you can do some damage to the baby. Why do you think the government and cigarette companies recommend not smoking during pregnancy?
