They were not the first Republic. They were not the first country to claim democracy. They were not the first country to give all men over the age of 21 the vote. they were not the first to give all men over the age of 18 the vote. They were not the first to have Universal sufferage (all people the vote). By no possible measure was America the first democracy. Why do you say it?

Where did you hear that? I've never heard that. I thought the US was based on ancient Rome, and that's what I was taught. Don't know where you're getting your information, but you're wrong.

Who says it? The founding fathers used the Roman model for the Republic, which was governed under the Greek model, and the Magna Carta as a Model for the Constitution. We learn this in Elementary school, or at least we did when I was in school! What alot of people say that isn't true is that we are still a Republic. We aren't. We haven't been since the Civil War.

This is a ridiculous question.

Every kid in the US is taught from a young age about the Roman Senate, the French democracy, etc., there is no such thing as a claim the US was "first" at democracy. Whoever told you that was terribly misinformed.

I'm an American, and we're taught that Greece was the first democracy. We are a republic, but I don't believe many Americans realize that. We're certainly not the first.

Because Americans are prideful--they want to be the first and the best at everything.

Edit:

Actually, we were NOT modeled after the Romans. We were modeled after the Iriquois Confederacy. How about you people actually research before you talk?

I've never heard anybody claim that. In fact, to the contrary, I learned in school that the founders of America studied historical governments to learn which types of government provided the greatest amount of freedom to their citizens.

I don't know anybody that claimed that. You must be such an American hater that you just imagine all kinds of things to despise.
