All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.
'He abused me, he beat me, he defeated me, he robbed me,'--in those who harbour such thoughts hatred will never cease.
'He abused me, he beat me, he defeated me, he robbed me,'--in those who do not harbour such thoughts hatred will cease.
For hatred does not cease by hatred at any time: hatred ceases by love, this is an old rule.

Love and hate are both very strong emotions and if you take a step back from them and look at the passion that fuels each, they are both the same thing with different ways of manifesting each other.
So to ask if one will overcome the other, I think they eventually cancel each other out and we are left with blissful neutrality.

love cannot overcome hate. you must have thought that when love exists while there was already an existing hate, by the time hate disappears, love already overcomed hate. NO. it's just that, rather than noticing hate, people would notice love better. hate wasn't overcomed, but hate just eventually DISAPPEARED, but the term is not "overcomed by love".

All such things that exist have a reason for their existence and a place in the scheme of things.
If one were to show only love to those who wish to kill then the aggressor will be the one who triumphs, hence the victory of hate over love.
Like anything, there has to be a balance and a thoughtful application of one and the other. To everything a season . . .

Often yes, sometimes no. It is possible to love and hate at the same time. I love someone, but hate them because of something they did. Forgiveness is really the conquerer of hatred.
Love is not the opposite of hate, indifference is.
