This is one of those questions that you have been asked because you are required to think yourself. You will doubtless get the answer from some kind soul here, but I am kinder by not telling you. Brains are like any other part of your body: they perform better the more you exercise them. I'd recommend you try to think of some of the reasons yourself, and for any future questions of this kind.

Because when you writea research paper, you are making an argument. If you are arguing a sensitive topic such as gay rights or abortion, and your main source is some Christian journal, then you can pretty much bet that the source is biased; therefore, your argument is weakened. THis is just one example--I'm not picking on Christian issues at all. But your sources should be very objective and should be written by experts who don't likely have another agenda in writing their document. Otherwise, you may have a well-written paper but you may still get a low grade.

Because important information could easily be witheld.

Let me give you an example (unfortunately, one that is actually occuring).
Let us say Mr. Megabucks buys up a bunch of land and builds a bunch of fancy shops and timeshares on it. The local newspapers start talking about how Mr. Megabucks is such a great guy because he is pumping millions of dollars into the local economy.

What the local newspaper is NOT reporting is that working poor who don't really have anywhere else to live were in effect kicked out of their homes. Not because they were bad citizens, but because all they wanted was to live in peace and raise their families but the local ruling body has been paid well to get the land any way they can.

So, which tale is true? Perhaps both- It's in the viewpoint.

Biases would certainly slant the information. Evaluate the sources' prejudices. There's always another side to the story.

Because they could steer you in the wrong direction, or give you wrong information.
