Al Gore did. Here's why

If it weren't for the support of the U.S. Senate and the creation of specific laws that govern the internet, it'd never happen.

However, the National Security Agency (NSA) did provide specific warnings about the apparent anonymous participation on the internet. Apparently, the idiots in the Senate didn't listen. So now we have an abundance of viruses, spyware, phishing, SPAM, scams and a host of other very expensive problems. Eventually the internet will DIE and have to be re-invented. When everyone starts to get 2000 SPAMS per day, people will flock away from it, and the internet will be DEAD.

Basically, it should be reinvented from the ground up. There is no way that you would let an unidentified stranger into your home. So is the internet of today. If the internet were reinvented, so that each user were 100% identified, then people would act differently; and it could in fact thrive as a market place without scams.

In the meantime, enjoy the DOT COM bust.

Although he is too modest to admit it, British inventor Sir Tim Berners-Lee is attributed as inventing the Internet.

See the following BBC report

Timothy Berners-Lee, the British mastermind of the world wide web, has been awarded fellowship of the Royal Society.
He is among 43 new fellows elected to the distinguished UK scientific body.

Now based at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the US, Professor Berners-Lee invented the web's address system and layout in Switzerland in 1990, revolutionising communication through the Internet.

The award follows criticism from the new president of the 360-year-old society, Sir Robert May, that the organisation had overlooked the Internet inventor.

I fink it was a joint project between american military and some of the white hot technological universities. Originally called Arpanet.

The nice pictorial bit that we see, I am happy to state, was invented by an englishman, Tim Berners-Lee, this bit being the world wide web.

I understand that he was employed at CERN which is a place in europe for geeky particle physicists who enjoy smashing sub atomic particles into each other at speed approaching that of light, and watching the lights go out in the sourrounding countryside cos of the amount of electricity the process neds.

Hope u find this helpful.

Byeeee!

The US Dept of Defense (DOD) for military purposes, in I think around 1974, based on the TCP/IP protocol. However, Dr Vint Cerf is widely thought to have been responsible for it's commercial/consumer user some years later in the mid-80s. Some say its how we get the term, surfing the net.

Dr Hilary Internet-Smallsmythe, the famous juggling botanist. He developed the internet by crossing daisies with ladybirds.
