lots and lots i work in hospitals as I'm a nurse and the care received by patients is sub standard cleaners don't know how to clean food is terrible and as for people saying us nurses are busy its a myth if they got on with their job rather then sit around gossiping the care would improve i have had personal stories i even threatened to take my dieing mother out of hospital in a taxi because the care she received was so poor they was allowing her to die and all she wanted was a drink of water they kept fluids from her she went on to live a further year but would have died then if we had have gone with what the nurse was saying about her not wanting fluids my mother was so thirsty she was begging us for water it was disgusting and i reported the whole team i have witnessed and reported a nurse threatening to hit a 6 month old baby i urge anyone who has elderly relatives and children especially in hospital to scrutinise and report anything they feel is wrong and not to be fobbed off by nurses or anyone for that matter there are support networks in most hospitals where patients and relatives can go and get independent help if they have any concerns of care or treatment to patients

I am not a whinger but have had appalling experiences with the NHS. The problem is that all the time you are fit and healthy you don't take that much interest. It is only when you are sick and vulnerable that you realise the depth to which the NHS has sunk. To say we are like a third world country is an understatement.
I think people should make official complaints and take photos of things such as disgusting toilets and bathrooms with over flowing sanitary towel bins etc. It is criminal that money can be found for wars, to pay huge salaries to the administrators and for new jets for government ministers but they can't clean the hospitals thoroughly.
When I have been in for surgery there are usually one or two members of staff rushing around like headless chickens trying to do all the work and the rest sit behind the nurses stations chatting and gossiping with the doctors. Read my story on www.vaco.co.uk under Carol's story.

My GP once wrote on a prescription '24 to be taken twice a day'
I would have overdosed and died if I'd done what he said.
Another time had to have a biopsy and the doctor told me to book an appointment but he would write to me if it was nothing serious and I wouldn't have to come in for the appointment. He didn't write to me and I was terrified it was something serious and yet when I went in he said everything was fine, but was more concered how I'd got the appointment as he wasn't supposed to be taken appointments at that time.
I also had another fairly bad experience when I went to hospital for a throat operation. The doctor was rude to me and spent most of his time trying to persuade me not to have the operation - probably because he wanted to go and play golf or something! Then I was preped for surgery, they told me that they'd changed the list and I had to wait for ages. Then when I was having problems with blood in my throat and feeling faint after the operation, they just told me to go to sleep!!
I have private healthcare now. Whilst the NHS is a great idea in principle and I do admire the nurses and think they do a great job, I think the doctors themselves are useless and waiting lists are horrendous.

A couple:
Getting a smear for the first time still a virgin and the nurse putting the speculum under boiling hot water and then ramming it into me and forcing my lips apart that was pretty traumatic and even now many years later I sometimes have to explain my behaviour to nurses.
Coming out the dentist and spraning my ankle, I hobbled to the doctors and he prescribed me a sock! It was my housemate who told me to elevate it and put ice on it. The nurses at the hospital could not believe what the doctor had done, but then again to give you an idea this doctor is available all the time....!
Do not get me started on the receptionists at doctors surgerys!

Yeah 2 months ago my neighbours were movin out and there daughter was ill so i looked after he during the move.
She started vomiting and finally fell asleep on my sofa.
When she woke up she had a massive rash to i took her to the hospital where they confirmed it was meningitus.
She made a quick recovery and came home 4 days later.
While she was in hospital me and my family had to be given a preventative medicine which made you wee bright red.
I read the side effects CAN CAUSE DEATH
I worried when my husband was rushed to hospital with a severe reaction to the drug.
We didnt take the whole course NOR was we warned of the SIDE EFFECTS.

It was 18 years ago, but I had a terrible time with a consultant who insisted I should have amniocentesis while pregnant with my daughter. He treated me like a naughty schoolgirl who couldn't possibly be making an informed decision and walked out on me when I continued to refuse it. I was only 39 at the time!

in response to new lady, that is horrible they gave you cipro but the drug it self is not bad I personally take it asnd it helps me greatly. One reason why you got those side effects could be you are not aloud to take that drug if you are under the age of 18 even if your a big adolesent it is against the law and that doctor who prescribed that to you can get in alot of trouble. Real sorry to hear about thAT
