Because usually you do, you just dont realise it yet......believe me it hit me like a ton of bricks when i realised i had a thing for the guy that i like, its been a year now, and i still feel as much for him now as i did then. I cant make anything of it, because he has a girlfriend, and i would never ever do anything to split them up, i would rather see him happy and let him live his life......thats how i know it is love.

It works the other way, too.
At a formal event once, and acquaintance's sister was looking bored and lonely, so I asked her to dance. She started humping my leg on the dance floor!
Another instance, I ran into a girl from high school many years later and chatted with her in a friendly way. She didn't stop calling me and asking me out!
I just thank God I'm married now and don't have to bother with that crap any more!
