I saved a pastel betta from walmart yesterday. I got him Hikari Betta Bio Gold, which I have heard is the best food for them. When I try to feed him he just looks up at the food and swims away. What am I doing wrong?

He has the PRETTIEST turquoise eyes, I don't want him to die. Also he has a minor case of fin rot which I am currently treating.

THANK YOU!!!!! :)

First dont worry, fish can survive for about 3 weeks without eating, though it s not recommended.

As for not eating the pellets, not all fish wil eat them, especially if they have never ate them before.

If in another day or two it still is not eating, you may want to try feeding it frozen blood worms. While the pellets are probably best, they are not found in the wild, blood worms are a more natural food and the Betta may be more willing to accept them as food.

When you first get a betta don't worry if they don't eat. They are just adjusting. If he continues to not eat than you could switch him to a different food. Just because it is the best food dosn't mean he will like it.

He might just not be eating because he doesn't feel good. Just keep treating him, making sure his water is clean, and feed him a pinch of food every day. He'll eat once he comes out of the shock of a new home.

Don't worry yet, a fish is not eating much and don't need food every day.

i have just gotten a beta fish too, and i thought the same thing when i saw he was not eating when i put the beta bio gold pellets into his tank. but don't worry- they'll be gone in a while. you won't notice he is eating them, but the fish will. they aren't like goldfish when it comes to being fed.

He could be used to eating diffrent foods, so if your feeding flakes, try pellets (vice versa). Mabey throw in some live foods or freeze dried blood worms. DONT FLUSH YOUR FISH!!! THOSE PEOPLE ARE DUMB WHO SUGGEST THAT!!! THATS LIKE AS SOON AS YOUR MOM OR DAUGHTER GETS SICK YOU KILL EM'!!!
