How do you prevent your WORKGROUP (SMB) network from freezing up with XBMC?

I get some videos from my hard drive through the WORKGROUP (SMB) sharing and every 2-3 days, they ask for a password and user name. Then I have to turn my xbobx on and off a few times, reset my router a few times and the thing goes away randomly, any ideas?
