My cousin had a job at this place for four years. New management came in last year. There have been nothing but problems since. One of the managers lied on her and put her safety at risk. They were kind of friends so she said something to the manager outside of work. She ended up being fired from her job. When she asked the other manager why he wouldn't tell her. Plus he fired her in front of someone which is very unprofessional. So she called the owner of the company. He told her that she got fired because the main manager said she threated the other manager. COME ONE! To be honest I don't know how she was so calm the whole time. If someone lied on me like that one manager did I would be in jail because I would went upside her head. The lie she told could have got my cousin hurt or even killed. Since being fired my cousin has discovered that the girl mananger who lied on her was fired from her other job for starting to many problems in the work place. Do ya'll think this is right?

No I don't think this is right but unfortunately happens in the work force, we just are not aware of it. Something similar happened to me and I lost one of the best jobs I ever had. I'd still like to run into the woman that was responsible! She too was fired not long after I was.... all my problems began after I declined an offer to go to the beach for the weekend with her. Several of us always questioned her sexual preferences......

Well, it's not really about what's "right" or not. That's a very subjective thing. The real question is what's "actionable". In other words, is what the boss did "illegal" and can your cousin sue?

I'm not sure where you're writing from, but in the US many states are "at will" employment states. What that means is the company can fire you "at will", any time, for any reason.

If your cousin is part of a union or had a contract, their company may have violated a collective bargaining agreement and may be liable for breach of contract. Call a lawyer. If this isn't the case, you could sue for "wrongful termination". They'd have to prove that they were fired due to false or misleading information, or that there was discrimination involved: race, gender, age, physical disability, etc.... - a much harder thing to prove. If your cousin has the "juice" to pursue this (and the time and money), call a lawyer. Many will give you a free consultation. See if you even have a case. If so, are they willing to go to the next level?

Does your cousin even want to work at an organization that would hire people like this or treat employees this way? It sounds like they could use some management training.

I wish you Peace.

No, it's not right, but it sounds like your cousin took the high road throughout all this. Going to jail over a job is not worth it. There will always be another job somewhere and maybe even one where the people are more respectful and obey the laws. It almost sounds like that they may have it in for your cousin. Somebody didn't like her and wanted her gone. This might be a good thing for your cousin. I would have probably quit that job after awhile had they put me in that situation and nothing was done about it. That is just not worth it.

Circumstances as given by you prove that the case may not be so as being reported to you by your cousin. You will have to examine the facts why did she get the firing before arriving at any conclusion. It must have been all to do with the new management. They may have changed priorities and one of the aims would have been to get rid of the prev managment's employees. This could be well the reason. Strange are the views of the management, sometimes.
