It depends on your age. A grad degree will help only if you have practical work experience to back it up. I see all these dumb shits getting their MBAs right out of school thinking it will help them get a better job. This is not true. An employer wants somebody he can mold and tell what to do, not somebody who thinks they know everything and will give him a hard time. MBAs and grad degrees are meant for professionals who have already gained practical knowledge of the industry and want to further their understanding. If you are young, don't waste your time, work experience will look infinitely better on your resume than a graduate degree.

Its not that simple.. Getting a degree does not automatically equate to getting more money. You have to have a plan and an idea of where you want to go career wise. Sometimes people mistakenly think that if they get a degree, someone will recognize that and say, "Oh, I should pay you more money". If it is more money you want, then learn more about the job that you current work at and obtain more responsibility. Companies pay their employees based on how much money they can bring in. If your skills and knowledge is causing my company to be more profitable, then you are worth more to me as an employee.
Anyone can get a degree but obtaining knowledge that is useful for the company is what really counts. If you are going to get that online degree so that you can obtain knowledge that your employer needs, then it is well worth your time and effort. $20K is nothing if you are getting something that will improve the overall quality of your life and if it will make you a happier person but do not go for this degree thinking that you are going to get a bigger paycheck because of it.

I agree with the others: accreditation is vital. Without it, you're getting scammed.
In addition, there is no guarantee that you'll make more money with a graduate degree. You have to ensure that yourself: pick a program with a particular employment goal in mind, and make certain that you finish up with specific marketable skills (writing, analysis, quantitative, etc.).
There are many graduate degrees that won't position you to make more money. It's up to you to choose wisely. Before you choose a program, talk with professionals in the field you're trying to enter, and get their input on the type of degree required and the quality of an online program.

i am in human resources. make SURE the on line college is accredited by a normally accepted regional association that accredits regular colleges and schools in your area. there are many scams where on line schools set up their own accrediting agencies and they appear to be accredited but in actuality they are just taking your money. hopefully your company wont pay for an on line degree program that is from a scam college but make sure you do the research first. is it worth it? depends on what field you are in and what degree you are going for. MBA or Engineering or Law is always worth it. much success to you
