That's a really good question! I don't think it would be considered alternative anymore, although the entire district may be considered alternative.

Even if a gay person lives in a predominately gay district, it's a world of gay and straight people (and some in between). No gay and avoid a straight person in his daily life and the same is true for a straight person. This is not a quarantine we are talking about.
A gay person's life is alternative only in the eyes of a straight person. To a gay person, his lifestyle is not alternative but mainsteam. It's a straight person's lifestyle which is alternative in the eyes of a gay person.

Yup, because, according to our society, the person will be considered living in an alternative district...

Well, use your logic. Of course not! Just as a Chinese culture is not an alternative in Little China, etc.
I would note, however, that to me, gay lifestyle doesn't exist. Being gay is something that affects only who you fall in love with and only who you're sexually attracted to, for it to influence culture would be ridiculous. You don't get left-handed clubs/districts for the same reason, except that the ghettoisation of gay people has led to a subculture that now enjoys languishing in the evidence of its own repression.

While it may be the norm in certain areas, the word, "alternative" is used to describe a lifestyle that is not the norm in a very broad society. i.e. The entire US.

And the hetros living in that district, are they living an alternative lifestyle?
Whereever it is, our lifestyles are unique to ourselves and more alike than different than those around us.

i would say it becomes a norm in that particular segment of the society because it is the predominant element.

Yes. It's not simply the one little area that is taken into account..it's all of society.
