Not sure what brand of flash you are using but some flash drives do take exception to being removed when you have open files. The PC freezing is just the computer trying to resolve the problem and should time out eventually. You may be able to resolve your detection problem by right-clicking on MY COMPUTER, left-click on PROPERTIES, go to the HARDWARE tab. Left-click on DEVICE MANAGER, expand the DISK DRIVES selection (click on the +) when it expands, if any of the items under 'Disk Drives' has an exclamation point on it showing there is a problem you can right-click on it and delete it. Remove your Flash, reboot your PC and try inserting your flash again. I hope this solves your problem.

i am not a computer person but that is what happen to me with flash drive:
if there is any file open and you take the flash drive, the computer had a problem. you should close all files that are stored in the flash drive just like the A: floppy disk long time ago.
My computer also stop recognising my flash drive. there is something you should look at in the system not sure what. look for installing usb or installing hardware and you will find that your flashdrive name is not recognised (unknown device). you need to clear that to let the computer detect it again. I hope more techy people reply to your question.

Try your flash drive in a different computer... sounds like the flash is 'bad'.

If you're using Windows, then down beside the clock is a little thing with an arrow that will 'gracefully' disconnect external drives. Next time you boot up, put the flash drive in, and see if it recognizes it... then, click on the arrow thing and you'll see if you can have windows disconnect the drive. Click on the drive and wait until Windows says "you can remove that drive"

good luck

if your flash is kingstone contact the support side if the site otherwise your flash is broken in the chip probebley
haven't you dropped it suuddenly. plugged it out without windows safe remove or any unusual way of using it. that's the way most of flashes crash as mine did!!!
if the chip is crashed then you need to changr it with the garanty if it has got.

Your flash drive is corrupted and so when you connect it to your puter, it freezes for the period of time it is trying to acces your flash drive.
