La vita e bella...Life is Beautiful. Excellent movie.

Not Italian but filmed in Italy and fabulous movies (esp. if you are a woman...perhaps you'd call these chick flicks (not not love stories...just tales of women's lives) but I really enjoyed both the movies and the scenery)

Under the Tuscan Sun and My Life in Umbria.

Sorry these are are English actually. There was another one, The Night of the Shooting Stars which was actually all Italian that was pretty good too.

some movies i like but not in this order:

1-for a handful of dollars
2-for a few dollars more
3-the good the bad and the ugly
4-i mostri
5-i soliti ignoti (there was a remake with george clooney of this one)
6-operazione san gennaro
7-riusciranno i nostri eroi...
8-non ci resta che piangere (this is really good if you understand italian)
9-ovosodo
10-c'era una volta in america

ok, maybe i put too many spaghetti westerns in the list but at least try one! :P

i would suggest you look for movies with the following actors:

gian maria volonté
ugo tognazzi
nino manfredi
vittorio gassman
massimo troisi

i didnt put any movie by pasolini or fellini cause i dont personally like them much, but their movies are considered masterpieces

I think I've only seen one Italian movie, "Life is Beautiful" and I liked it. But I would like to mention how I also like the "Godfather" movies even though they're Hollywood movies. It's a lovely Italian story.
