My daughter gets them often and she takes Lysine, you can find it in the vitamin aisle. Also if you feel one coming, abreva works fairly well and after it has popped up, herpecin or campho phenique.
You could also try cutting back on highly acidic foods.
Don't think it is herpes of the mouth...cold sores come from the herpes virus, but it is a different strain. My daughter has been getting them since she was in elementary school and the doctor says some people are just more prone to cold sores/fever blisters. Sun exposure and certain foods can trigger an outbreak
Always change toothbrushes, lipstick, chapstick etc. etc. after using on the infected area. If they are really bad, consult your doctor.

I got diagnosed with genital herpes (type 2) about seven yrs ago, when I was still in college and had a dumb one-night stand. I understand a lot of girls will declare this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a massive mistake that one time and all of a sudden I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her private parts? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/1MPKE everything improved.
Not only was I able to clear away all remnants of the herpes virus from my system in less than three weeks, but I was also able to start dating once more. I even met the man of my dreams and I'm so lucky to write that just last week, in front of everyone in a crowded restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me!! This method provided the opportunity to be happy and experience true love. Now I want to enable you too by sharing this with the whole World.

Cold sores are herpes simplex... you can try using Cimetedine (tagamet) which is a "stomach acid reducer"
..on occaision
I have herpes zoster which is "shingles" or latent chicken pox.. its from the same family.
its very painful and if you take the medication the "minute" you feel the tingle it will reduce the severity and the length of time the condition remains.continue the meds thru out the infection time
I have done it several times and highly recommend it..its very in-expensive ..and can be found at most drug stores .. they dont know why it works but I found it on a med site on the net and was willing to do anything it took to rid myself of the pain and severity.search yahoo words cimetidine/shingles for more info.

If you are getting them frequently, you probably have herpes of the mouth, sorry to tell you, but that is probably what it is. Go see your doctor about it, they can prescribe you something. Since it's a virus, you should probably make sure you are taking your vitamins everyday, eating a well balanced diet and drinking plenty of water.

abreva works wonders...also carmex, blistex, and if it cracks apply rubbing alchol on it w/a q-tip as the alchol will help dry it up (it will sting for a while, but it works)...ALWAYS wash your hands after you are applying the medication so you do not spread the cold sore

Apply white toothpaste and leave overnight. It draws out the pus and also works for acne.
