Sorry Wendy, but the camera was not being held by a live human cameraman. It usually has a telephoto lens and is bolted behind a protective blast plate (to absorb some radiation which would fog the film and to prevent it from being "blown away").
Digital cameras with recording equipment is the current choice. The person who set it up was probably thinking, "Is it time to get the Hades out of here?"

having lived through the cold war, i hope such pictures leave the public domain only when we've destroyed all such weapons. the destructive power is unbelievable. the madness needed to use these weapons is astonishing. so i hope you have to look at such horrible pictures until they no longer represent any capability of mankind.
