What SHOULD be a prayer like?
Prayer is a beautiful conversation between you and God (or your inner conscience).
It does not matter HOW you pray, WHY you pray, WHO you pray...but just pray...silently and discreetly or loud...whichever way you are most comfortable...
Those who do not want to use their talents to achieve worldly things, ASK God for material stuff...
....But a true person is who prays to God to give him the resistance, and courage and patience to apply his skills to achieve the same material stuff he so badly wants...Remember, God helps those who help themselves!
Those who seek spirituality are not necessarily those who have abandoned being material...they just want to be tuned with God to FEEL S-P-E-C-I-A-L. Do the right things to 'Feel' special...Remember, conscience is as good as God, if you can listen to your inner voice, you are already spiritual.
Those who pray for salvation are those who want to run away from this beautiful world created by God...but the true meaning of seeking salvation is to realize that this world is temporary and the ultimate destination is God's home up there somewhere and that the doors are from within...
So, as I said...the stress on what SHOULD be a prayer like, should be based on WHAT is your need? Identify yourself and pray...
But yes, also remember that PRAYER has no restrictions...its a free conversation with God...a language, an expression...Amen.

A prayer is not asking for material gain. A Prayer is a conversation with God, Thanking Him for everything, asking for forgiveness, ask for blessings, such as kindness, compassion,
love, peace of mind, humility, etc. God has His own time in giving us what we NEED, not what we want. What we want,we have to work for. Give it a try. Listen carefully to Him. Peace 2 you.

your prayer should consist of spiritaul things like having a relationship with God, salvation, repentance/forgiveness of/for sins. Mattew 6:33 say first seek the kingdom of God, and then all these things(cars, houses, money, material things)will be added(given unto you).

Prayer is a conversation. that means that half of it is in the listening. Do you just asks for stuff over and over when you talk to your friends? Of course not.

There's no *shoulds* in a prayer.
What *is* in a prayer, defines a person's main concerns and desires.

prayer should be thanksgiving, praising, asking, then freeing your mind with any thoughts....but it should if at all possible be thanksgiving and acknowledging that you already have all the bleesings you need.
