sometimes you were even the brainbox behind a solution, but you out of the limelight.

It is not you. People both at work and in churches, government and through out society can be this way to some degree or another. Even the early Christians argued amongst themselves about who was better. Do any of us remember jealous arguments amongst ourselves in front of Mom and/or Dad?
Selfish pride always finds an ability to stretch the truth or lie in order to look good in front of authorities who can either reward and advance or demote and take away. The problem is that in the end (wether the end of a test,or fiscal quarter,or special project or the end of a life)...these cheaters will flunk and people like yourself will shine. In other words, when asked how they arrived at that place or to demonstrate the steps they took to so called accomplish their great "task", these cheaters will be found out and you will be compensated!

Let them come across as smart a few times, then one day the boss will expect them to come up with an answer on their own. That is where their true colors will show. At this time, try to pick a different project to work on, so you can't be assistance to them. If the boss is so shallow, I'd start looking elsewhere where you'll be more appreciated for what you can contribute, and not have to share your spotlight with hangers-on.

As you're doing these piece of work, you need to secretly collect evidence that the work is yours, if possible. Then, one day when you go in for a raise, you can provide the evidence that it was all your work. Or you can just speak to your supervisor and politely state that you wanted to make your participation in the project know.
