Solomon Grundy vs The Thing.
This is a great question because when you break it down these two characters have interesting backgrounds. Many of us fans will first look at Grundy to have the advantage because of his battles with Supes. Those battles were fought head to head, with very little thought. When battling Grundy, he has very little thought injected into his fighting skills. That is why Supes defeats him so easily. Supes, at least has tons of powers to win that battle everytime with no problem.
The Thing on the other hand, is a pure fighter. Think of it in the terms Muhammed Ali boxing George Forman. Comicbook writers many times forget that Ben Grimm is a Yancy Street boy who grew up fighting. The Yancy Street Gang is notorious for their mischevious ways of showing up Grimm, but they are also a street gang. And a very formidable gang, I would imagine.
Grimm is tough. A former football star and war veteran, with ties to fighting alongside Nick Fury and his Howlers. This hero has a lot to ofer in a pure fight. Not to mention that he has had some outstanding battles with the Hulk, whom because Bruce Banner is in there somewhere offers more brain conception than Grundy ever could.
Saying all that, I give The Thing an edge over Grundy. Having one of the greatest minds in all of comics in Reed Richards as your best friend cannot hurt either.
The Thing wins!!!!!

Ben Grimm is way smarter than Grundy. But Grundy doesn't get tired, being only pseudo life. I think that Ben Grimm is also stronger than Grundy. Grundy has been shown to be stonger than Swamp Thing, though Swampy also has powers that Grundy does not have. I don't think that Grundy has the intelligence to use his powers effectively.
[I think that Ben (Thing) Grimm and Alec (Swamp Thing) Holland would wind up buddies, chillin' and swillin' brewskis. They were both regular Joes until they were changed and have had to spend the rest of their lives getting used to the fact.]
Another minor DC character that almost everybody has forgotten is the Blockbuster, who was sort of a takeoff on the Hulk. In terms of strength, I would say in order:
Swamp Thing/ Solomon Grundy/ Blockbuster (all about equal)
Marvel's Thing
Hulk.(Hulk is strongest)

I believe the Thing will win because SG doesn't think on his toes like Ben Grimm who went toe to toe with the Hulk and Gladiator

Geesh, another tough one.
I'm going to say SG. He just isn't fazed by brute force. Even Superman has a tough time w/ him if he goes at him head on.
You have to outsmart SG, and the Thing, while capable, doesn't tend to operate that way.
I say SG wears down the Thing
