As a non smoker I find it so hard to understand people who do smoke as its clinically proven that smoking contributes to all sorts of health problems & diseases. What more motivation do you need. A good idea would be to visit a few poor souls in your local hospice, who at some time may have been in the same situation with no motivation to quit, but my God I bet they wish they could have found the motivation now! I know we are all guilty of bad habits & excesses of one kind or another & I'm no exception, but you will be doing yourself ( and others around you) one enormous favour by quitting. Dont decide to stop ' after this last packet or after the weekend or after your holidays or whenever you have to make the decision to do it NOW, that last packet might just be the catalyst to spell disaster. Good luck !

I was a smoker for a lot of years. I would smoke at least a pack a day. I got to the point of health and family nagging me to quit so I did.
I went cold turkey and after two days the desire to smoke began to decline. When I had the urge to smoke I would eat a carrot or chew gum. I also had the encouragement of family.

when you stop smoking you have to change your lifestyle as well to reach your goal. Stop thinking about how much you enjoy it and start thinking about the way it brings you down. Skip the pub if you are having a hard day with cravings. Invite the friends you usually see at the pub over to your place to play cards instead. And have a smoke free home. Eat smaller meals so that you never need that I'm so full smoke.

i quit 6 weeks and found it easy for the first few weeks after that i lost sight of my goals but still haven't had a cig
here are my tips
use nicotine replacement
drink a lot of water (it helps flush the crap out of you and your feel better quicker)
when you feel like you want a cig try not to think about it as the craving will go in a few mins
while in the pub play with the beer mats keep your hand busy
take up a new hobby to keep you mind of cigs (mine was exercise)
treat yourself with the money you haven't spent on fags
chew gum (if your not on nicotine gum)
good luck
if you need any help or support email me

COLD TURKEY!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY WAY. AFTER ABOUT A WEEK THE NICOTINE LEVELS GO DOWN, YOU MAY SLIP SOMETIME AFTER THE WEEK HERE AND THERE BUT JUMP BACK ON THE WAGON! FOR THE HABIT, AS FAR AS THE CIG BETWEEN YOUR FINGER TO MOUTH PUFFING, THAT IS WHAT IS THE BIG PROBLEM, THERE ARE THESE PLASTIC TYPE CIGS WITH A HOLDER LIKE THEM OL' DAYS... PICK UP SOME AND PUFF AWAY UNTIL YOUR HEARTS CONTENT. CHEW SUGAR FREE GUM IT WILL HELP CLEAN YOUR TEETH AND TAKE THE TOXINS OUT BECAUSE SORBITOL IN SUGAR FREE HELPS WITH CONSTIPATION, SO IT WILL CLEAN YOU OUT FOR A WHILE.

hi......i stopped smoking nearly 6 months ago....i'd smoked 30-40 a day,and since i was at school,i am now 46......i wouldnt say i have any tips, but i'm happy to tell you how i did it.
first of all i gave myself a date on which i was going to stop...i gave myself about 4 weeks,so that i could mentally prepare for it......during those weeks i bought nicotine inhalors, and tried them too,to see if they would work......i tried using them without putting the nicotine in to see if they might help,to my surprise, they did help.....
and lastly i was recommended a book, called THE EASYWAY TO STOP SMOKING.....its written by Alan Carr.......it has the effect of changing the way you think about smoking and stopping......i used the inhalors for about 3 months, but for the last 2 have used nothing......instead i drink water out of bottles to satisfy any craving for the hand to mouth action..altho that has become much less too......i hope this helps......good luck
