Why do you think they're good??

The WHOLE team was great in WC, but some one was even greater and this my ranking in strictly order:

Cannavaro - so far the best tournament player.
Buffon - best goalie.
Pirlo - he plays an uncommon role, is a midfielder play maker in front of the defenders line.
Gattuso - OUTSTANDING defensive midfielder, check FIFA WC individual defensive stats. Only Vieira was close to him.
Materazzi - best scorer with 2 goals, as Luca Toni

Best highlights:

Del Piero - WHAT A GREAT GOAL starting from Cannavaro's break! The perfect fast break attack, the traditional Italian tactics at its best performance ever ... Every time I need to link it ;-)
Grosso - stunning goal against Germany. After the goal coach Lippi seems concerned, he ask Gattuso and the whole team to be careful. Needs to remember Grosso 'found' the winning penalty in Australia match ;-)
Inzaghi - Another fast break attack, running 40 meters and avoiding Cech
Buffon - LOTS of saves, I can't pick the best one. Could it be the save on Zidane head shoot ... LOL Materazzi wasn't so lucky ;-)

Of course, ALL of them played well. Totti was out of fitness and played a poor final. Del Piero had not his better performance as Toni and Gilardino did. Zaccardo and Nesta were unlucky, an own goal means to be out from the the default line-up, and Nesta's injury stops his WC. De Rossi, what a pity! He paid in full his mistake, he was in the line-up...
Zambrotta, Camoranesi, Perrotta played well, but they weren't outstanding as Pirlo and Gattuso were.
And coach Lippi was the main actor in Italy's winning.

Now WC is gone (farewell to 2010 with our 4 stars on the jerseys) and the actual line-up isn't ready. Today coach Donadoni will start with a 4-3-3 formation and this makes me happy! I like to see Italy attacking. The line-up is a test one, I can spot only replacements in the line-up. Amelia will be the second goalie. Chiellini is a good player to me. But I like Marchionni. I guess the ultimate line-up will be close to WC one, but Donadoni needs to find quickly the best replacements to Cannavaro and Materazzi (both 33) and it's difficult to spot it out who could they be. Midfielders don't need changes and De Rossi, Pirlo and Gattuso should reach not only Euro 2008, but South Africa 2010 WC too. Rome's Aquilani is a good young player.
Caracciolo, Marchionni, Tavano, Semioli are interesting substitutes to Del Piero (34) and Inzaghi (33).
Finally, I don't believe Totti will really leave the Azzurri. Donadoni said 'I will try to speak him' but I guess this will be such an easy task ;-)

I'd pick four:

1. Gianluigi Buffon: The guy is good. Period. Sure, he could learn a thing or two about penalty goals, but on game time, he's THE BEST. Hands down!
2. Fabio Cannavaro: really? The guy is a freaking wall! I won't forget the time I saw him get down on his elbows and take the ball away with his two legs from another player! Besides... This guy does not care to get hurt if it stops the ball!
3. Andrea Pirlo: Well... I think he's responsible for almost every goal the italians score. I think he has an incredible mind and a great team conciousness and knows where the ball will go 2 minutes in advance. It's amazing.
4. Genaro Gatusso: I think he's a key stone for Pirlo, and that is why I pick him. I think they both make a great team... It's 2x1 offer.

Goodluck!

Nesta- the best defender inthe world! The legendary defender, who played along, and took the place on Paolo Maldini in the heart of the Azzurri defense!

Cannavaro- did you see Germany 2006? Did you see what Cannavaro did in the absense of Nesta? Like Nesta, and Maldini, He's a captain!

Gigi Buffon- dont ask me why!, u already know!

Pirlo-- playmaker, freekick master, passes ( short and long), Midfield Genius! Master of his art!

Rino Gatusso--> is there anything to explain? The guy is tough!

Future greats are Zaccardo, Grosso, Di Rossi, Barzagli, Gilardini, Toni and the rest!!!

Forza Azzurri!!!!!
Forza Italia!!!

Morbidsweetness why are you answering this question if you don't like the Italy team.. go somewhere else. The best players in the Italian team are all of them cuz they worked together as a team. But Buffon and Cannavaro did do an outstanding job in being a great goalie and Cannavaro being a good defender and the best captain Italy has had

well its kind of hard to pick just one player when the whole team did their share in winning. but if id have to chose id chose Buffon because he is the best GK and with him there it will be very very hard for the other team to score and Cannavaro because hes a good captain and hes always there going for the ball, trying to steal it from other players.

-Gianluigi Buffon-GK
-Cristian Zaccardo-DF Good defender but what I hate is most people underrate him

-Fabio Cannavaro-DF Very Excelent captain's choice for Italy

-Alessandro Del Piero-FW Good for Sneak attacks and great shots

-Francesco Totti-MF Good Contrative Player, Really takes on the,"There's no I, in Team" Saying.
